IF One Direction and Zac Efron weren’t enough to sate Sydney’s teens, I can announce that US heart-throb Chace Crawford is coming to town. And he’s single.

The handsome Gossip Girl star is Australia’s new Diet Coke ambassador, and will arrive in Sydney on Friday ahead of a meet-and-greet next Monday at Martin Place.

Crawford, who plays privileged New Yorker Nate Archibald in the US series, told me he had befriended Shane Warne while filming with the cricketer’s fiance Elizabeth Hurley.

“He’s the nicest guy,” the 26-year-old said. Despite his steamy storylines with Hurley, he said there was no awkwardness between him and Warnie.

“It’s always kind of funny, and you have to smile about it, but no we got along right away. I’m professional and she’s professional,” said the star.

Crawford said the final season was due to begin filming in July.

“We’re all kind of contracted for six seasons and I think [producers] are trying to figure out what to do with the next season and try to wrap it in a nice tidy bow and send it on its way.”

During the fall finale of “Gossip Girl,” viewers saw a future princess and a wealthy businessman get into a high-speed accident while being chased by the paparazzi. To many, this may have seemed like more than a passing reference to how Princess Diana died in 1997. But according to the “Gossip Girl” EP Josh Safran, that really wasn’t the case.

“I don’t really know if it fully entered our brains until later. I’m not saying it wasn’t unconsciously there, but we were not looking to be that event or disrespect that event,” Safran says. “We’ve actually been talking about an accident of that sort a long time because the paparazzi chase our actors around.”

Of course the question now isn’t whether Chuck (Ed Westwick) and Blair (Leighton Meester) will survive (Safran admits they will), but what happens to their relationship and what does it mean for the royal wedding. On that matter, Safran was mum. He did, however, offer some insight into Charlie/Ivy’s (Kaylee DeFer) immediate future after she told Rufus (Matthew Settle) she’s not who the family thinks she is.

Safran says the van der Woodsen’s response to Charlie/Ivy’s admission “is dealt with in the first episode back [Jan. 16]…both whether they think she’s crazy, what they believe and how she reacts.”  He adds that the family “honestly want to believe [she’s part of the family] so much that they made it so. But I think what you will find is that the one person who isn’t so comfortable with them still believing is Ivy herself.”

In a couple of other tidbits, Safran notes that Billy Baldwin’s return as Serena’s father will extend into multiple episodes. While he won’t make Rufus’ life miserable, “he may piss off some other people.” Additionally, Safran says Elizabeth Hurley will reprise her role as Diana Payne, but not for a few more weeks.

Uh oh. Uh oh…

The bitch is back!

We just off the phone with Gossip Girl executive producer Josh Safran, who, in addition to teasing the return of Jack Bass (Desmond Harrington) and Georgina Sparks (Michelle Trachtenberg), exclusively revealed to us that another familiar face (and troublemaker) will be returning to the show in the second half of season five: Diana Payne (Elizabeth Hurley)!

So what brings Diana Payne back to town? And what’s up with her mysterious connection to the Bass family? Here’s what Safran told us…

“I won’t tease anything other than Elizabeth is coming back, so Diana will be returning in the second half of the season.” So yeah, Safran couldn’t tell us much, but we’re extremely excited about Hurley’s return to the show, especially because it will more than likely coincide with Harrington’s return to the show as Uncle Jack Bass.

When asked if we’ll learn more about Diana’s connection to the Bass family, Safran would only tease, “That story is far from over.”

Of the ever-unpredictable Jack’s return, Safran says he’ll be coming back as an ally for his nephew Chuck. “Jack changes every time he comes back. Sometimes he’s super gross and other times he’s reformed, and last time, he really was trying to help Chuck. When he returns this time, it’s more along those lines of what we saw from him last year. He’s still an unrepentant bad boy, but he’s enjoying it a little bit more.”

As for Georgina? Well, expect her to do what she does best: cause trouble “We love having Michelle and Georgina on the show. She’s just a shot in the arm for every character,” he says. “No matter where she turns, she’s going to stir up trouble. This is the longest arc we’ve had her for since season one, and that was just really invigorating and fun. I really think the audience is going to love it. She really amps up everything to 360 degrees!”
