Pretty, pretty princess commoner.

Gossip Girl’s Blair is no longer the princess of Monaco, y’all. Yes, our Queen B was finally granted her freedom from the boringness that was her marriage to Prince Louis, but was she fully ready to go from a royal whirlwind romance to a normal, slightly hipster, relationship with Dan? And remember that time Blair told Chuck not to pay the dowry that allow her to divorce her evil hubby? Yeah, about that….

Plus, what does Diana’s return mean for Nate and Lola’s relationship and Chuck’s search for answers about his mother? Find out…

Blair’s Just Being Blair, Y’all: Blair finally receives the documents to finalize her divorce, but hesitates on saying goodbye to her princess status forever. After Nate spills to Dan that Chuck paid Blair’s dowry, Dan continues the game of telephone, letting Blair in on Chuck’s secret. Blair confronts Chuck at the event o’ the week (a lingerie party because why not?!) saying, “You thought you could buy me back, just like you sold me for your hotel.” Chuck reasons that he never wanted her to find out about his involvement in her divorce. “I just wanted you to be free,” he says. “Who you choose to love with that freedom is up to you.”  Cue Chuck dropping the mic and walking away. Boom.

Dan apologizes for spilling the beans, but then needs to know why she didn’t sign the divorce papers. “This has nothing to do with Chuck or the dowry. My whole life I wanted to be a princess…I know it’s silly, but I think it was just one more loss I needed to mourn to move on,” Blair explains. Dan, being the awesome BF he is, decides to stage one last princess moment for Blair: He takes her to her former court, the steps at the Met, dressed as a princess, or “a prom queen doing  the walk of shame.” Too. Cute.

Mother Dearest: Chuck’s trying to decide whether or not it’s worth the risk to track down Elizabeth after learning she helped save his life. After receiving some advice from his therapist private investigator, Chuck decides to talk over the decision with the only person in his life who also got to know Elizabeth back in season three: Blair. Unfortunately, Blair isn’t in an advice-giving mood, seeing Chuck’s visit as just another one of his ruses to get back into her life. “We both know we’ve never been good as friends,” Blair says.

Later, Chuck’s private investigator comes by to drop a bombshell no one everyone saw coming: Elizabeth didn’t donate the blood, so she can’t be his mother! Which totally doesn’t lead us to…

Diana Brings the Drama: In a storyline totally unrelated to Chuck’s motherly woes, Diana Payne is back and bitchier than ever. You see, she’s intent on taking the Spectator back from our Nate and isn’t above using (or, you know, causing) problems in his relationship with Lola to get the job done. Nate neglects to inform Lola of his personal relationship with Diana, which she soon finds out about thanks to Google…and Nate’s suspicious behavior. Lola turns to cousin Serena for help, but the new Gossip Girl uses the situation to her advantage, setting Lola up to be the new It girl so she can finally be free of Gossip Girl’s invasive shackles. There are certain shades of limelight than can wreck a girl’s complexion. At least that’s what Holly Golightly said.

Too bad Lola is pulling a double-cross! She’s working with her handsome BF to get some dirty dish on Diana to ensure his job security and uses her Floridian BFF Aidan, who is—wait for it!—16, to do so. Obviously, Serena feels so betrayed by this development. “I’m so sorry. I hope we could still be friends,” Lola says to an unmoved Serena, who completely forgets the fact that she was using her cousin.

So what lesson did S learn from all of this? She likes being the It girl…and Gossip Girl. See, you can have your cake and eat it, too…for now anyway.

Scheming and manipulation are two elements that you can always guarantee to find on Gossip GirlElizabeth Hurley returns tonight as Diana Payne to use both of these methods to snatch back The Spectator from Nate (Chace Crawford). Serena (Blake Lively) is also trying to figure out how to balance her regular life with her new role as Gossip Girl and it looks like Lola (Ella Rae Peck) might be the person to help. Chuck (Ed Westwick) is looking to his past after discovering that it wasn’t Jack (Desmond Harrington) that saved his life after the car accident; will he find the truth?

Diana is a confident woman who has used her sexuality in the past to manipulate a situation to get what she wants and as you can see in the producers preview Diana knows that sex sells. To show that Diana is back in town she is co-hosting the “Down to Your Skinnies” Kiki de Montparnasse lingerie show and thus begins her power struggle with Nate for The Spectator. Nate of course is dating Lola and so the return of Diana is sure to create friction here, even though Lola insists that she doesn’t want to compete with Nate’s former flame.

Serena has different ideas for Lola as she wants her cousin to take Serena’s ‘It Girl’ status and that begins with taking part in this lingerie show. Serena wants out of the spotlight as she doesn’t want to write about herself now that she has started posting on Gossip Girl. It seems somewhat unfair and selfish of Serena to choose her reluctant cousin and this is unlikely to end well. Serena clearly has not yielded to the message that the real Gossip Girl sent her last week, how long will it be before she hears from her again? Diana has previously wanted to take down Gossip Girl, so is her return to town linked to this desire to challenge Gossip Girl all over again?

There is still the Ivy (Kaylee DeFer) issue, as even though all of her assets are now frozen Ivy still remains in Lily’s (Kelly Rutherford) apartment. Lily is not coping well in the apartment in Brooklyn and with the situation in general and despite Rufus’ (Matthew Settle) efforts it looks like this will cause tension between the couple. Anyone else feeling like Lily is being a tad stuck up about her new living arrangements?

Dan (Penn Badgley) and Blair had some minor hiccups in their relationship last week that was solved with alcohol and an elevator, but this week the pair looks like they might have bigger issues as Blair starts to act suspiciously. This sneak peek suggests that Blair is hiding something from Dan and it could be related to Chuck. Chuck has a private investigator tracking down his mother as it appears she saved his life and he reaches out to Blair when he discovers something. Should this concern Dan and Blair fans or is this just Blair helping out Chuck in his time of need?

Gossip Girl Ep 5x19 Sneak Peek #1: It Girl Interrupted (Dan and Blair and Dorota)

Gossip Girl 5.19 “It Girl,Interrupted” Promo

Several Gossip Girl guest stars will be making appearances when the show returns with all new episodes in April.  We’ve already revealed that Jack Bass will return at Chuck’s request in the April 2 episode and that William van der Woodsen will be sticking around the Upper East Side as well (read more here).

Now The CW confirms that Elizabeth Hurley will also be returning toGossip Girl on April 9.  The episode, titled “It Girl, Interrupted”, features Hurley’s Diana Payne returning to New York to start a power struggle with Nate over the future of The Spectator.  Will Nate lose?  We know in the April 2 episode that he’s seeking new investors, so his hold on the paper might be tenuous.

Meanwhile, Serena decides to take on a new project in this episode.  Despite the fact that her cousin Lola (guest star Ella Rae Peck) has indicated that she wants nothing to do with her family, Serena is determined to transform her into the next “It Girl” so that she herself can step away from the spotlight.  Step #1 in this plan is getting Lola to model in a Kiki de Montparnasse lingerie fashion show.
