Art Takes Center Stage on ‘Gossip Girl’, Monday November 19 (9/8c) on The CW
The Art Production Fund to Be Featured During the Monday,
November 19, Episode (9/8c) of The CW’s Hit Series
BURBANK, Calif. (November 16, 2012) — Fictional or not, the Upper East Side–dwelling characters of the stylish drama Gossip Girl — currently in its sixth and final season — have some fabulous and very real art collections. For five seasons, Gossip Girl has partnered with the Art Production Fund (APF) to feature works by artists such as Ryan McGinley, Martin Eder and Kiki Smith in the series. In the “Where the Vile Things Are” episode airing Monday, November 19, at 9/8 on The CW, the art takes center stage.
In the episode, Lily Bass (Kelly Rutherford) hosts an auction to benefit the APF featuring art from her own personal collection, including one of her favorite pieces — “Spectrum,” by Richard Phillips — which has held a prominent place above the stairs in her apartment for many years. When CHUCK (Ed Westwick), Ivy (Kaylee DeFer) and Lily each decide they want the Phillips for their own reasons, a bidding war ensues.
In addition to Phillips’s “Spectrum,” pieces by Patrick McMullan, Jessica Craig Martin and Marilyn Minter — all of whom have had their work previously featured on the Gossip Girl set — are featured in the episode, along with pieces by Kehinde Wiley, Miltos Manetas, Josephine Meckseper, Dustin Yellin, Spencer Sweeney, Chris Dorland, Todd DiCiurcio, Pierre Elliot and Fab 5 Freddy, appearing for the first time in Gossip Girl.
Richard Phillips’s piece “Lindsay III(2012),” featuring Lindsay Lohan, also appears in the episode.
In addition to having their work featured on screen, Phillips, Sweeney, McMullan, Fab 5 Freddy, DiCiurcio and Doreen Remen, co-founder of the APF, make cameo appearances in the episode.
THE PRICE YOU PAY — Blair (Leighton Meester) gets ready for her mother’s (guest star Margaret Colin) imminent arrival, but is unprepared for the set of demands her mother puts upon her. Serena (Blake Lively) volunteers to help Dan (Penn Badgley) find a new place to live, but their time together brings up unexpected emotions. With Ivy’s (Kaylee DeFer) help, Chuck (Ed Westwick) discovers there is evidence incriminating his father in illegal activities and enlists the help of Nate (Chace Crawford) to retrieve it. Meanwhile, Rufus (Matthew Settle) and Ivy are excited about their art gallery opening until they find an empty RSVP list and must scramble to find another way to make the event a success. Kelly Rutherford also stars. Norman Buckley directed the episode written by Dan Steele.
Jessie: Please tell me there is hope for Rufus and Lily on Gossip Girl!
There’s a battle brewing on the Upper East Side: It’s going to be Ivy and Rufus vs. Lily in the coming episodes. Of course, we all know that the artist formerly known as Charlie Rhodes is playing Papa Humphrey. But did you know she already has man she’s very much in love with? One we all know and (don’t) trust. Hint: He’s also a father.

THE TRUTH — After Eleanor (guest star Margaret Colin) gives Blair (Leighton Meester) an ultimatum, Blair is even more determined to remedy Waldorf Designs’ problems by making a splash with a dress at the upcoming Cotillion, but a shocking revelation at the ball affects everyone. Serena (Blake Lively) becomes worried about Steven’s (guest star Barry Watson) attitude toward her, but after some investigating she discovers the surprising reason why. Chuck (Ed Westwick) finds an unlikely ally as he tries to drive a wedge between Bart (Robert John Burke) and Lily’s (Kelly Rutherford) relationship to help expose his father’s secret. Meanwhile, Dan (Penn Badgley) publishes another article, but the effect is just the opposite of what he was hoping for. Chace Crawford and Matthew Settle also star. Amy Heckerling directed the episode written by Sara Goodman (#605).
DEAD ENDS — Chuck’s (Ed Westwick) continued investigation into his father’s dealings leads him to an unlikely event with Manhattan’s elite, where he hopes to find the one person who can tell him the truth about Bart (guest star Robert John Burke). Serena (Blake Lively) and Steven (guest star Barry Watson) decide to reveal their romantic histories so they aren’t surprised by anything, but neither was prepared for what they uncovered. With The Spectator in jeopardy after Dan (Penn Badgley) decided to publish elsewhere, Nate (Chace Crawford) must make a difficult decision to keep it in business. Meanwhile, Georgina (guest star Michelle Trachtenberg) pushes Dan to choose a worthy person to date to boost his image, but he finds himself drawn in a different direction. Leighton Meester, Kelly Rutherford, Matthew Settle and Kaylee DeFer also star. Sofia Black-D’Elia guest stars. Matt Whitney directed the episode written by Andy Wolk (#604).
