Iconic Style Moments From Five Years of Gossip Girl

The sixth and last season of Gossip Girl — a.k.a. The Greatest Show of Our Time — premieres tonight, and so much has changed since it began five seasons ago: Taylor Momsen hadn’t yet discovered eyeliner, hair extensions, or crotch-skimming outfits; Ed Westwick spoke in a volume greater than a husky whisper; and Blake Lively was just that Traveling Pants girl with all that hair. But more than that, it was the first show since Sex and the City to whip us all into a frenzy over its wardrobe. You may not remember any plot intricacies beyond the endless Chuck-and-Blair tango and a bunch of absurd text blasts, but you’ll never forget those bastardized private-school uniforms, the endless masquerade balls, and Chuck Bass’s hilarious athletic onesie. As the show prepares to go out in what we pray is a blaze of sartorial glory — by which we mean madness — we’ve picked the most memorable Gossip Girl fashion moments from the last five years.

Spotted: Our Gossip Girl recapper, Jessica Pressler, filming a cameo on the show itself with her former comrade-in-arms, Chris Rovzar, with whom she wrote that famous 2008 cover story for New York heralding the CW soap as the “Best. Show. Ever.” (We won’t spoil the nature of the cameo — nondisclosure agreements and all that — but feel free to speculate on the romantic complications that could ensue with Pressler and Rovzar in the mix.) It’s hardly the first time that we’ve gone through the looking glass with Gossip Girl, but since the show is entering its final season, it may be the very last time. XOXO, for real.

I don’t have a whole lot of time to follow what New York magazine has called ‘The Greatest Teen Drama of our time,’ he said, feigning indifference. “But I am interested in finding out who the real Gossip Girl is—Serena’s cousin, maybe? And I don’t see how Blair could marry Prince Lewis while she is clearly in love with Chuck, although she and Dan became pretty close when they interned at that fashion magazine. And I just wish that Nate and Vanessa had been able to work things out, I guess Nate was preoccupied with everything that was going on with his father and Jenny and, I mean, it was a tangled web, I guess Dan would have ended up making their relationship impossible anyway, but I’m just a casual fan.
