XOXO, ERIC DAMAN
‘GOSSIP GIRL’ COSTUME DESIGNER ON HEADBANDS, BLAKE LIVELY AND THE END OF THE SERIES
No matter who sleeps with whom on the sixth and final season of “Gossip Girl,” fans of the series will be happy about one development.
“We’re bringing back the headbands,” costume designer Eric Daman told The Daily. “It’s almost as if they have some sort of supernatural power.”
The show’s fashion godfather, an alum of “Sex and the City,” said the last season, which premieres Monday, will be like “Gossip Girl 2.0.”
“We’ll be bringing back little elements of who we fell in love with in season one,” he teased.
Bidding farewell to the Upper East Side is “bittersweet,” Daman said, especially after bonding with Blake Lively, whom he helped make into a front-row designer darling.
“When I first met her, she wasn’t aware of designers. She was kind of like Cinderella, starry-eyed in front of all of the shoes,” he reminisced. “She’s done a great job growing into herself. I’m proud to help her.”
Next up for Daman is costumes for the CW’s “Sex and the City” prequel, “The Carrie Diaries,” debuting in January.
“We’ve been to Forever 21 and H&M and Urban Outfitters and Top Shop,” he said. “[The Carrie Bradshaw character]’s not going to be a tricked-out fashionista — yet.”
NATE (Chace Crawford)
Once a messy schoolboy and now a digital newspaper editor, Nate “is really into great Rag & Bone suits,” Daman said. “We bought back the blue palette for him. It always makes Chace’s eyes look amazing.”BLAIR (Leighton Meester)
“Remember when Blair was this majestic schoolgirl reigning on The Met steps?” Daman said. This time her headbands will be “mature” (no bows!) and she’ll rock Prada prints. “There will be a grown-up feel.”SERENA (Blake Lively)
Bad girl Serena is “going back to the short skirts that remind me of her little schoolgirl kilt,” Daman spilled. Expect her in a yellow Jenny Packham gown on Monday’s premiere: “Blake fell in love.”DAN (Penn Badgley)
“He was that hipster doofus that made you say, ‘Is that ironic or is he really wearing that?’” Daman said of Dan, now a prolific writer sporting cashmere v-necks for an “intellectual, French film-noir feel.”CHUCK (Ed Westwick)
“People are obsessed with Chuck,” Daman said. So he’s giving the people what they want: bow ties, plaid and “brutish, Wall Street” suits. “All of his outfits are tailored especially for him,” Daman said.
